"There was a time when it [milk] was considered very desirable, but research has forced us to rethink this recommendation... Dairy products contribute to a surprising number of health problems. They can impair a child's ability to absorb iron and in very small children can even cause subtle blood loss from the digestive tract. Combined with the fact that milk has virtually no iron of its own"

Now do not get me wrong, I have nothing personal against milk. It tastes great! It would be hard for me to believe that anyone enjoys a nice glass of Oberweis chocolate milk more than I do. However, as I attempted to research the benefits that milk provides to the strength of bones, I was bombarded with information providing me with reasons that milk may not be all that great for us after all.
Milk is claimed to be the perpetrator for the intense increase of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), the leading cause of death in the U.S today. According too Margaret Moss, the Director of the Nutrition and Allergy Clinic in Greater Manchester, UK, "Several studies have been published showing a high positive correlation between milk consumption in different countries and rates of death a few years later from CHD". CHD has become such a challenge to our current society due to our newly founded ways of life including; sitting on the couch for hours watching television, eating at McDonald's consistently, the use of cars ( massively decreasing the number of steps we take in a day), we even have to consider the way are raising these cow's that produce our milk, ect...
Due to our new ways of life I have a hard time buying that milk is the main suspect for the rising CHD numbers.
Don't take this information lightly because it may just be true. However, personally I would highly recommend that, if you do stop you're milk consumption, you start consuming Calcium vitamins. Milk provides calcium which as we all know due to our pre-k gym teachers, "makes your bones stronger!".

ReplyDeleteSo is the milk they are talking about specifically from animals or does it include soy milk?
ReplyDeleteI think your post is very interesting and informative. The only thing you'd better change is to make your picture words larger and easier for people to see.

ReplyDeleteThis post caught my eye because it is similar to something I would write about on my blog! This is an interesting topic and I like how you added some humor into your post while still making it informative!
